This is beautiful piece of on Prayers, action and contemplation.  
I received this short essay from a nun friend following a conversation about the Quran that we had. I cannot agree more with everything this essay states.

Stepping back from the desire to be in control (and in a way trying to control God's actions by being so specific with our request's from Him) and moving forward to the point of feeling part of a whole, with what it entailed: a sense of humility (we are a small part of something a lot bigger) to the sense of purpose and responsibility (the whole will only get better if every small piece strives for improvement) - those two thought are so profound.

Such thoughts are core and dear ideas to me as part of my commitment to my faith (Islam), and similar thoughts are inspired in me by words and spirit of my scripture (The Quran). The author speaks my mind very accurately.

Alternative Consciousness  By Richard Rohr 

 I often use this line, a paraphrase of Albert Einstein: "No problem can be solved by the same consciousness that caused it." Unfortunately, we have been trying to solve almost all our problems with the very same mind that caused them, which is the calculating or dualistic mind. This egocentric mind usually reads everything in terms of short-term effect, in terms of what's in it for me and how I can look good. As long as you read reality from that small self, you're not going to see things in any new way. All the great religions taught a different way of seeing, a different perspective. This alternative vantage point is the contemplative or non-dual mind. It is what we usually mean by wisdom.
 The word contemplation has ancient roots, but for a long time it was not taught much in the Western church. Contemplation was finally rediscovered again through Thomas Merton's writings in the 1950s and 60s. What is contemplation? Simply put, contemplation is entering a deeper silence and letting go of our habitual thoughts, sensations, and feelings. You may know contemplation by another name. Many religions use the word meditation. Christians often use the word prayer. But for many in the West, prayer has come to mean something functional, something you do to achieve a desired effect, which puts you back in charge. Prayers of petition aren't all bad, but they don't really lead to a new state of being or consciousness. The same old consciousness is self-centered: How can I get God to do what I want God to do? This kind of prayer allows you to remain an untransformed, egocentric person who is just trying to manipulate God.
 That's one reason why religion is in such desperate straits today: it isn't really transforming people. It's merely giving people some pious and religious ways to again be in charge and in control. It's still the same small self or what Merton called the false self. Mature, authentic spirituality calls us into experiences and teachings that open us to an actual transformation of consciousness (Romans 12:2). I think some form of contemplative practice is necessary to be able to detach from your own agenda, your own anger, your own ego, and your own fear. We need some practice that touches our unconscious conditioning where all our wounds and defense mechanisms lie. That's the only way we can be changed at any significant or lasting level.
 For a full lifestyle change, I believe we need both action and contemplation. The state of the communal soul is the state of the social order. As Jack Jezreel, founder of JustFaith puts it, "The world cannot be changed by love to become just unless we are changed by love to become whole, but we cannot be made whole without engaging in the work of making the world whole. Personal transformation and social transformation are one piece." [1]

الأحري قول  بين حضارة من ناحية و إغراق في التخلف على الناحية الأخرى.

واحدة تحترم البشر و تقدس العقل و المنطق في امور الحياة فيما يقرب من العبادة.

و الأخري تؤله البشر الفانيين لحد العبادة و تكره العقل و المنطق لحد الشيطنة.

الأولى لها من الشرور نصيب و لكن من ورائها أتى الكثير من الخير حتى لمن يكرهها حتى النخاع.

و الأخرى كنافخ الكير: لا يأتي منها خير ابدا - فقط كراهية عمياء و ضلال للعباد و غباء غير محدود في كل أمور الدنيا و الأخرة من نخبتها قبل جهَلَتها,

Such an attitude by the eternally-rotten authorities in the Middle East started in early historic times. But I cannot blame the Ancient Egyptians or Early Persian dynasties for behaving like that.  That was the norm then.

But I cannot forgive those who took and egalitarian region and scripture (I mean Islam and the Quran) and turned it into system of governance that promotes oligarchy, dictatorships, religious and political ethnic dynasties and stripped it of its original spirit as practices by the Prophet and the early civic leaders that followed him.

I also cannot forgive those in modern times that still want us as Arabs and Muslims to accept systems of governance that is more befitting for animals than for humans.

المادة رقم 1 من دستور الهوية العربية: الفشخرة الكذابة مقوم اساسي من مقومات الهوية العربية.

Will Egypt Ever Heal?

I have witnessed more hate and 'blood thirst' in Egypt in less than a week than what I have witnessed in 30 years of living in Egypt. The hate and blood thirst that Egyptian should have had directed at their oppressors and abusers for 30 years plus, all piled up against each other, and mostly with support from the institutions and media that sustained and protected the past oppressors and abuser - and even under the same leadership of the past abusers in many cases.

How can so many smart people give up their brains and even their souls willingly and joyously to the same people and institutions that actively and forcefully brain-washed and enslaved them for 6 decades?
 

How can you cheer and incite further the same criminals and bullies that took advantage of you for so long just because they are picking on someone else now?
 

Can whole so many people be so gullible? Or are they simply that evil?

On both sides of the big rift I had friends that I would have trusted with my life a couple of months ago. I would be naive to feel like that anymore. Will I ever heal??

 

Latest Egyptian Government Innovation: Security Forces Members on 'Demonstraors Hunting Trips'!

Another Egyptian innovation in how security forces enforce peace: in T-shirts and sneakers (with the lowly soldier guarding your safety), while you are shooting at demonstrators.

Looks and feels like a hunting trip or rest and recreation for the guy in green, who is probably an officer.( he does not have the body type of the typical government paid thugs, the shirt and shoes look fancy and clean; and the sunglasses! That is a job to die for - pun definitely intended.

And with civilian -clothed security forces shooting demonstrators, how is it possible to believe the security forces and government controlled media when they publish photos of 'civilian-clothed individuals with weapons' and claim they are 'violent and armed' demonstrators?


WAKE UP PEOPLE. Can anyone still believe that the police felt in danger? If you feel in danger, do you face the bullets in your nice evening walk cloths? 
 
And if the security forces dress like that, does anyone really still believe pictures of "demonstrators carrying weapons" when all they see is government-circulated photos of people in civilian cloth carrying weapons - just like this one? crop out the uniformed soldier and you see a typical 'demonstrator carrying weapon' picture. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

'?Quranic Verses: Could They Be Used in Arguments of Non-Religious Nature

A good and thoughtful friend of mine expressed concerns regarding the use of Quranic verses in many of the opinion disputes and arguments these days. He definitely has legitimate concerns that worry me too. But I only partially agreed with him as I see some legitimate uses as well. I may be trying to split hairs, especially in the middle of the opinion and verbal war going on these days about the situation in Egypt, but I think I still have a point to share. And here it is:
"
I agree with you totally on most of your statements. But I have only a partial, or qualified; agreement with your final sentence regarding avoiding the use of Quranic verses.
Of the Quranic verses, there are verses that could be abused: for example, using verses to hint that one group is the group of the believers (or God's favorite) or that the other is not. That is God's judgement. Another example is using verses that God used to express His, the Almighty, judgement of communities or individuals in the past or on the Day of Judgment is a transgression against God.
BUT, and it is a big but, Quranic verses are also the most effective reminder of the moral principles or fairness, justice, the need for coherence in making moral judgements (i.e., avoiding double standards, or AL-tatfeef التطفيف), the need to rethink our stances and opinions in view of what we thinks is right (Al-Taqua التقوى), or of the need to testify to the truth according to conscience and not desires (Al-hawa الهوى), and even the need to avoid excessive anger and to practice tolerance and encourage coexistence. Using these verses as a reminder of our moral responsibility is A MAJOR goal and use of the Quran: it is a REMINDER to those that think of it as a reference for morality.

Injustice: can it (or should it) be forgiven - الظلم: هل يمكن أبدا غفرانه

I read this today, and I loved it.

"اللهم قد وهبت لك من ظلمني، فاستوهبني ممن ظلمتُه"

In English, my best rendition of this profound statement would be:

"Oh God: I grant You the right to forgive whoever committed injustice unto me.  Help me get the forgiveness from the hearts of those I committed injustice to".

I am not there yet, not even close.
Injustices still hurt for the few seconds that their memories pass through my head - even after many years have passed.
I am not even sure I will ever be at that point of forgiveness.
I am not talking about mistakes and simple errors in judgment. I am talking about injustice.
How would one forgive premeditated infliction of injustice just because someone had the power to inflict it without fear of retribution or accountability?
How would injustice be forgotten when it was committed deliberately with disregard of the victims existence, and with no purpose other than gaining above and beyond the bounds of need, comfort and luxury of the ones that committed it.
I cannot simply ignore that the worst of all criminals are described in the Quran as those that committed injustice (الظالمون)

"إِنَّمَا السَّبِيلُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَظْلِمُونَ النَّاسَ وَيَبْغُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ أُوْلَئِكَ لَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ"

For Egypt, I have no hope

Egyptians, as a people, enjoy rumors more than they enjoy the reality. They are more likely to believe the absurd than they believe the simple truth. I am still amaze by how much the numbers of people that demonstrated on Jun 30 are 'still growing' by the day every time I hear some of the coup supporters on TV (the latest I heard was that it was 33 millions - yes 33 million citizen on the streets. I heard it with my own ears from the mouth of one of the pro-coup propaganda clowns).
Unfortunately, the lousy job done over the last 12 months by the Muslim Brotherhood and by Morsi - despite all the real obstacles they faced - made it easy for a lot of Egyptians to believed the nonsense of the other side, and buy into the stupidity of their claims. Sadly, Islamic leaning groups cannot help it. They are locked into a very inflexible mindset with dooms them to failure in modern politics. Also their sense of supremacy (and that the eye of God is watching over them) will always make it impossible for them to succeed.
As for the other side (yesterday's opposition, today's governments/rulers, they are bunch of wannabees that lack the vision and the leadership, but they have abundance of scheming skills and egos that fill the ocean.
Bottom line, I really think Egypt deserves what is happening to it. People are willing to bet their lives on losers because they 'like them'. And most Egyptians do not want to see the truth or to use their brains critically to make proper decisions.
Most of us (or them - depending on my mind set and mood towards Egypt) do not want to admit that there is no worthwhile options on the scene. And rather than admit that and not make judgements, we jump - with both eyes closed - in the arms of the side we "emotionally" are incline to.
Obviously, I am not optimistic: I am simply waiting for the next disaster.

للأسف لا يمكن التعبير عمَّا يحدث في مصر الآن باللغة العربية الفصحى في معظم الأحوال.  و يصبح اللجوء الي لغة الشارع (مثل "فنجرة بُؤ") هو الطريقة الوحيدة للتعبير الموجز عن احداث و فكر لا وجود لها إلا في ذلك المجتمع الغريب و الذي يزداد غرابة و سفهاً ساعة بعد ساعة.  حضارة المبالغات اللغوية ليست جديدة علي مصر و لا علي المجتمعات العربية عموما حيث تصبح كل خناقة "أم المعارك" و كل حاصلا علي ليسانس كلية حقوق "فقيه  دستوري" و كل من ذهب إلى مؤتمر خارج البلد "خبير دولي".

نشأت في مصر و أنا اسمع أن جنود مصر "خير أجناد الأرض"  (إعتمادا علي حديث شديد الضعف بُنسب للرسول عليه السلام) في حين أن مجمل إنتصراتهم خلال مئة عام لا تتعدَّى 4 أيام بين 6-10 أكتوبر عام 1973.  و علي نفس النمط يمكنك الحكم على اقوال مثل: "دكاترة مصر أشطر دكاترة في العالم" و "القضاء المصرى احسن قضاء في العالم"  أمَا "الطيار المصري فهو اللي مفيش حد زيُّه في الهبوط بالطيارة – كأنك نازل علي مخدة ريش نعام" ، إلخ  إلخ إلخ.

أما اذا تسائلت لماذا إذا تعيش مصر في بؤس ليس له مثيل و تفشل فشلا ذريعا في كل ما يُشكِّل مقوِّم من مُقومات الحضارة فإن الرد دائما جاهز:  "الموضوع كله في الإمكانيات" و "أصل السِسْتم مِش مِساعِد" – متناسين داتما أن التخطيط في ضوء الإمكانيات و ان تصميم "السِسْتم" كله في يد كل هؤلاء العظماء الذبن لا يوصفون أبدا إلا يإستعمال صيغة "أفعَل للتفضيل" عند ذكرهم يالمقارنة بنظرائهم في العالم.

لماذا أذكر هذا اليوم؟  لِأنَّني "فاض بِيَّا و ملِّيت" (كما تَغَنَّت أُم كلثوم) من سماع الجمل التالية و كلها " فَـــنْجَرة بُؤ" تقال على سبيل

التهديد الخالي دائما من كل مضمون:

• "الشيء الفلاني خط أحمر": فجأة البلد امتلأت خطوط حمراء نظريا لا يجوز تجاوزها إذا حسبنا سذاجةّ أن التهديد وراءه أي قوة جدية.  و المضحك أن الشيء الأحمر الوحيد الذي يجب عدم تجاوزه حقيقة هو إشارات المرور الحمراء و اللتي لا أظن أن شخصا واحدا في مصر توقف عندها علي مدى اعوام و مع ذلك لا اظن ان شخصا واحدا دفع مخالفة مرور بسببها.
• "فلان الفلاني لحمُه مرّْ" حتي يكاد يظن السامع ان كل الناس في مصر "لحمهم مرّْ".  و هذا التعبير يقال عندما يجرؤ كائنا من كان أن ينتقد بعض من ترضي عنهم سواء كانوا سياسيين او علماء دينيين و اعضاء في سلك القضاء الى آخره من الفئات التي يعتبر إنتقادها كما لو كان تجاوزا على الذات الإلهية.
• أما ثالثة الأثافى فهىَ "انا تحت إيدي مستندات هتقلب الدنيا و هتوديهم في داهية".  منذ يناير 2011 و أنا اسمع مثل هذا الإدعاء من أعضاء الحزب الحاكم و أعضاء المعارضة و الفلول و كثير من الأشكال التي تجد من يستمع إليها و ينشر إدعاءاتها و هي "لا تُساوِي نِكْلة".  و حتى اليوم لم أري أو أسمع عن مستند واحد نُشِر أو أُستُعمِل أمام القضاء و أدَّى إلى إدانة مجرم أو هارب أو مُختَلِس أو سياسي سابق من أى نوع.

 إعتَدْت في الماضي وصف الواقع العربي المعاصر بـ "Culture of Rhetoric" : كثير من الكلام و أقل القليل من المضمون على مدي قرن كامل على الأقل.

للأسف ان الربيع العربي لم ولن يغير هذا الواقع المريض لعدة عقود.

When creativity is a KILLER!.

I am deeply unhappy about what is going on in Egypt at this time.  It gets too emotional to the extent that a friend, jokingly warned me that I need to watch my health; even that I should get something to calm my nerves a bit about Egypt and its ongoing drama.

The sad thing is that my friend - even though he was joking - is partly correct.  Egypt's situation is one of the top 3  extremely stressful things in my life now.  Added on top of that, it is the most 'diverse'.  So it is impossible to adapt to it - even a bit.  Other stresses have become somewhat predictable and you learn to live with them. 
Not this thing with Egypt.  Everyday, there is a totally new kind of stupidity and a totally new kind of 'low'.   It is impossible - for me at least - to adapt to that. It is like chasing you own tail.  The minute you think you are getting close to acclimatization, the whole scene changes to a more depressing yet totally 'novel' frustration. 
Why can't that stupid country direct its creativity towards something good rather that discovering new ways to give us all heart attacks and strokes?

Virtual leadership: Monday morning Quarterback - قائد عظيم - فقط - في العالم الإفتراضي

"قال محمد البرادعي- رئيس حزب الدستور والمنسق العام لجبهة الإنقاذ الوطني، إنه لا يقبل رئاسة حكومة إنقاذ وطني ولكن يمكن أن يساهم بالأفكار."

ألبرادعي كان ممن دعوا الي الثورة و ساهموا فيها و يحسبه البعض قائدها. رفض الترشح لرئاسة الجمهورية و هو عضو مؤسس و رئيسي للجبهة المعارضة "جبهة اللإنقاذ -The salvation/rescue front". لا يملوا من المعارضة لأداء و توجهات الجكومة الحالية (و هي حكومة فاشلة ولا شك). يطالبوا بحكومة أخرى و يجعلوا هذا شرطا لقبول المشارك في الإنتخابات التي من المفترض أن تؤدي الى حكومة منتخبة ممثلة للشعب. أحد قادة المعارضة صرح ان اي انتخابات نزيهة ستؤدي لأغلبية - و نتيجة لذلك حكومة من المعارضة الحالية. I في ضوء الوضع الحالي و مطالبات المعارض يبدو من المضحك ان يخرج قائدها - و مؤسس جزب سياسي كبير - ليقول أنه لا يقبل رئاسة حكومة إنقاذ وطني و لكن سيساهم "بالأفكار" - كما و كان مشكلة مصر حاليا هي الأفكار.
مشكلة مصر الرئيسة هي الفشل الذريع للسلطة النتفيذية. بعض الفشل هو فشل قيادي و بعضه من فشل الجهاز التنفيذي علي مستويات تطبيق خطة القيادات علي مستوى الشارع.
من المريح جدا التجاوز و الإغراق في المعارضة و الإحتداد علي الفشل التنفيذي للحكومة عندما ترى قيادة المعارضة أن دورها فقط هو توريد أفكار بدون إعتبار أن القيادة السياسية ليست في توريد الأفكار و لكن في تنفيذ هذ الأفكار في ضوء ظروف و إمكانات المجتمع الذي يتم التطبيق فيه.
عندما يقول مؤسس جزب سياسي كبير انه لن يقبل بقيادة حكومة إنقاذ في الوقت الذي يرى فيه أن مصر تغرق يوما بعد يوم بسبب الحكومة الحالية و التي بطالب بتغييرها, فلا أجد ما أقول إلآ أن ألعاب فيديو عن قيادة سيارة السباق أسهل كثيرا من قيادة سياق سباق حقيقية.

As they say, it is when the rubber hits the road, that the real thing distinguishes itself from the fake ones. As for those who prefer to believe in 'virtual leadership', I tell then: have fun. You found one.

ريشة الرسم لم تصنع فان جوخ

محور رئيسي من محاور الخلاف السياسي في مصر هو الأتفاق – أو الإختلاف -  علي أدوات الحكم.  من الدستور و صياغته الى قانون الأنتخابات و دور المحكمة الدستورية في رقابته – سابقة ام لاحقة ام كلاهما -  و حتي عدد قضاة المحكمة الدستورية في الدستور الجديد و هل كان هناك منطق في تغييره ام أن الأمر كله تم لأغراض سياسية دفينة في "العقل الأجرامي و القلب الأسود" للإسلاميين في مصر.  و من حين لآخر بضرب البعض الأمثلة من دساتير "الدول المتحضرة" لإثبات فشل الإخوان و كيف انهم – و أنهم وحدهم -  وراء كل مصيبة في مصر.

رأيي كان وما زال أن المصريين اصبحوا مركزين نهائيا علي أدوات الحكم و فقدوا أو تناسوا العنصر الأهم في المعادلة.

هناك العديد المتباين من الدساتير و قوانين الأنتخاب في "العالم المتحضر" و كلها صالحة لمجتمعاتها. منها ما بضمن رقابة سابق للمحكمة الدستوريةعلي القوانين و منها ما يبيح فقط الرقابة اللاحقة علي القانون و فقط إذا طُعِن في دستوريته.  لكن إفتباس أي من الدساتير او القوانين لن  يجعل مصر دولة متحضرة.  شراء سيارة فاخرة لن يجعل الجاهل بالقيادة سائقا ماهراً كما أن شراء كمبيوتر فائق السرعة لن يجعل من ضعيف العقل عالم صواريخ.

بؤرة الصراع اصبحت العنصر الخطأ و هو الأدوات القانونية مع تناسي مُتَعمَّد للعامل الوحيد الذي له معنى: العامل البشري و الذي بتم تجاهله لأنه أصعب العوامل و أ بطأها في التغيير – عقدين من الزمان مع التفاؤل.  تغيير البشر ليس "هدفا عملِيا" لمعظم السياسيين الذين يريدون كرسي الحكم أولاً و  بأسرع فرصة و " سنبدأ النظر في المشاكل الحقيقية" عندئذ.

القوى الوحيدة التي استثمرت في العامل البشري على مدي  30أو 40 عاما مضت  كانت القوي الإسلامية. و قد ظهر للحميع العائد علي هذا الإستثمار في كل الإنتخابات منذ الثورة في مصر. و سواء اتفقت مع أو كرهت دور هذه الجماعات في تغيير او غسيل مخ - حسب اتجاهك السياسي -  الأفراد الذين يصوتون لهم بمواظبة و إخلاص فلا بد ان تعترف لهذه الجماعات بالنجاح فيما خططوا له.

علي النقيض من الإسلاميين قام التقدميين و اللبراليين و اليساريين و الناصريين بالعمل مع قلة من الشعب و هم القلة اللذين إختاروا هذه التيارات لميلهم لهذة العقائد السياسية من البداية و ليس لأن هذه التيارات تواصلت معهم لتقنعهم بنفسها.

هذه التيارات - الإستعلائية و النخبوية في معظم الأحيان – يجب أن تعلم انه ليس هناك عصا سحرية و أن تغيير ادوات الحكم – قانونية أو مؤسسية – لن تؤدي لنجاحهم ما داموا بعيدين عن العنصر الوحيد المؤثر في النجاح السياسي : العنصر البشري.  وإذا لم يدركوا هذا بسرعة فلا أمل في تغيير وضعهم السياسي الحرج او المستقبل المصري الذي لا يبدو مشرقا.

لا أدري أهو غباء أم سذاجة أم نوع آخر من أنواع الهستيريا العقلية التي تسود مصر هذه الأيام و لكن تكرر التعبير عن المخاوف من انتشار المذهب الشيعي في مصر كنتيجة للأنفتاح علي ايران او زيادة السياحة الايرانية لمصر يثير الضحك من ناحية و بثير الدعوة الي التأمل من الناحية الأخرى.

أي مذهب أو عقيدة تخشى الهزيمة او الأضمحلال لمجرد الأحتكاك بعقيدة اخرى اظن انها لا تستحق الحياة. ومصيرها الى زوال -  اختلطت بعقيدة اخرى ام لا.

 لا ادري ما سقول الأغبياء الذين يزعمون ان الانغلاق به اي مزايا اذا فرضت عليم بعض الدول المتحضرة أو غير المتحضرة قيودا تمنعهم من السفر الى تلك الدول بدعوى الخوف من نشرهم تقافتهم المتخلفة التي يدَّعون انها الأسلام - و الاسلام بريء منهم – بين افراد تلك الدول؟

الأسلام في عهد قيادته للحضارة الأنسانية انتشر بخروج افراده للأحتكاك بالعالم حولهم.  لا هم خافوا من العالم و هم فيه قلة، ولا خاف العالم منهم بدعوى نشرهم ثقافتهم فيه.  الأختلاط اصل التقدم بين البشر.  و احتكاك و صراع الأفكار من سنن الله اللتي ليس منها بد.

"قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَى مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ آبَاءكُمْ"  - الزخرف 24

"وَاتَّبِعُوا أَحْسَنَ مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُم " – الزمر 55

و من لم يستطع البقاء فليذهب ليس مأسوفاً عليه.

"كذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللّهُ الْحَقَّ وَالْبَاطِلَ فَأَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَاء وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الأَرْضِ كَذَلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللّهُ الأَمْثَالَ" – الرعد  17

Blind, and proud of it.

A group of people appeared moving around in circles, bumping into one another.  They look lost.  A passerby looks at them as they continued their purposeless chaotic movement with their eyes closed.
"Open your eyes.  You may see where you are going".
"But it is dark out there", replies one of them.
"It is not dark.  It is day light.  The sun is out, and the sky is clear", said the passerby.
"What you say is not true.  A good man told us it is dark", said another of the lost ones.
"But it is not dark.  The truth will be obvious if you just open your eyes for a second.", naively said the passerby.
"No we won't.  A trusted man told us that he heard a trusted man say that he heard another trusted man say that it is dark out there.  It is a chain of good trusted men. How can the truth be anything different?", said the lost ones as they continued their blind chaotic dance close to the cliff.

Their sacred Book says:

 وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ قَالُواْ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا أَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءنَا أَوَلَوْ كَانَ آبَاؤُهُمْ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ شَيْئاً وَلاَ يَهْتَدُونَ" - البقرة 170 "

"When it is said to them: ‘Follow what God hath revealed:’ They say: ‘Nay! we shall follow the ways of our fathers.’ What! even though their fathers Were void of wisdom and guidance?".  2:170

 But who cares what the Book says.  All they care about is that " A trusted man said he heard a trusted man say that he heard a trusted man say ............."
